Ron Darvin

Ron Darvin is a Lecturer and Vanier Scholar at the Language and Literacy Education Department of the University of British Columbia. His research examines the social and educational trajectories of migrant Filipino youth, and the intersection of race, ethnicity, and social class in multicultural Canada. A recipient of the 2017 LSP SIG Emerging Scholar Award of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), he is the author of the short play Waiting that touches on issues of long-term family separation and reunification. Published in a literature textbook in the Philippines, the play weaves together the real-life stories of migrant Filipino youth and their caregiver mothers, and has been performed for educators, researchers and non-profit organizations in Vancouver as a springboard to discussions of migration and inequality.
